Chaos to Clarity 🔮
Hello Reader, 👉 Before I get started, I wanted to bring your attention to a Brand Protection Intensive my wonderful business attorney Nequosha is hosting. She's awesome, and if you need to get your intellectual property sorted, this may be a great place to start. I don't get any kickbacks or benefits from sharing this, I just think so highly of her that I had to share! "What should I be doing if my industry feels chaotic right now?" I've been asked this, or a variation thereof, over and over again this year. I've said it before and I'll probably say it a million times: uncertainty is far worse than certain "bad stuff." So it makes sense why this question keeps coming up. My very unexciting advice is: Focus on the foundations, keep your eyes on your own work. When I say focus foundations, I mean some pretty simple clarifying things in terms of my sphere of authority, such as:
When I say keep your eyes on your own work, I really mean it. One of the biggest mistakes we all (seriously, everyone does this) make when we're dealing with uncertainty is start looking around at everyone else, trying to figure out what they're doing and if we should be doing that as well. This does nothing but waste time, energy, and mental bandwidth. Know your plan, believe in your plan, follow your plan—and stop worrying about everyone else's plan! There's a good chance they're looking at the person next to them anyway, so it's not even helpful! Listen, sometimes I wish I had more glamorous advice, like "build a seven step marketing funnel with two order bumps," because that sounds super fancy and it's a complicated solution to a complicated problem, but it's not the RIGHT solution. When things get complex, simple can do more for you than you'd imagine. Onward & upward, Sarah |
