Hiding in Plain Sight 🫣

Hello Reader,

In my summer group strategy program, Summer of SEO, this week we had a great conversation about blank screen syndrome.

I don't know about you, but this is usually what it looks like for me:

Staring at a blank screen, wishing for inspiration to strike...

The cursor blinks, blinks, blinks.

I write a sentence.

Delete it because it's the worst sentence ever composed.

Blink. Blink. Blink.

Yeah, it's not awesome! Zero stars for sure.

This truly happens to us all, and it's even worse if writing's not your thing. (And it's not a lot of people's thing.)

I will, however, argue that the solution might be closer than you think. The words you're looking for might already be hiding in plain sight within your own documents.

Truth #1: Your Document Hoard is a Content Goldmine

Believe it or not, those seemingly mundane client proposals, project reports, and email exchanges are brimming with potential blog post topics. By revisiting this existing writing, you can save time, create nuanced and distinctive work, and establish yourself as THE industry expert.

Truth #2: Methodologies Are Magnetic Content

Do you have a unique approach to your work? Share it! Right now!

Your methodologies and frameworks can be transformed into informative and engaging blog posts and more. Consider breaking down complex processes into easy-to-understand steps, and watch your audience grow. Again, you likely already have this in process documents and proposals which means no more blank screen nightmares.

Let's make this super simple with just three steps, okay?

Checklist: Repurposing Made Easy

  1. Inventory Your Resources: Gather your existing documents, emails, social media posts, and videos. You can't rework what you don't know exists.
  2. Identify Inspired Content: Look for recurring themes, client questions, and areas of expertise that make you stand out from others.
  3. Repurpose and Refine: Transform your content into blog posts or articles, making sure you use "you" and "I" language so you're speaking directly to the reader, human to human.

Will this make everything magically stress-free? Probably not. (Sorry!)

But it will help you start, and allow you to see that you're not beginning with nothing, you're simply adapting what's already effective for an audience who needs to know you.

Hi! I'm Sarah Moon!

The status quo of modern marketing isn't designed for you and me.The hard truth is that most marketing strategies are designed for massive corporations, while small businesses, consultants, coaches, and other experts are left feeling that the advice they’re given just doesn’t fit—and they’re right. We have two choices: we can struggle to force our businesses into an ill-fitting mold, or we can reinvent a system that works for us and allows us to thrive. I don’t know about you, I prefer door number two. 💌 Reach our team at hello@smco.studio. 🌟 Ready to work together? https://sarahmoon.net/get-started

Hello Reader, Over the years, a lot of business owners have "confessed" to me that when they first started their website, they wrote a few blog posts in their excitement about having a a real, legit home online. And then... life lifed and they never kept it up. And... never saw the benefits. This is such a common story and it's one that can feel a bit daunting. If this is you, you may be wondering: Will I look silly if I start blogging again after two, three, five years or more? What do I...

Hello Reader, Sometimes I have to remind myself to take my own advice. This week, I was feeling a bit uninspired with what to write about for my newsletter. August is typically a lower open rate for me, and I know folks are just busy right now—plus I'm just plain worn out after a busy summer! Then I thought to myself, "Sarah, what would you tell a client who had this kind of block?" My answer: "Ask yourself how you can help someone today. Write about that." Which I've probably said more than...

Hi Reader, The pervasive belief that more content is better is enough to make me kick walls (except I would stub my toe and that is the absolute worst). Post more, share more, do more, more, more, more... No one can keep up and goal posts keep getting moved. But this couldn't be further from the truth. Quality, not quantity, is the key to successful marketing. Why is less more? Relevance: High-quality content marketing that directly addresses your audience's needs and pain points is far more...
