Marketing without social media?

Hello Reader,

I'm currently working on an article about marketing without social media. It's one of those that I've had on my "To Write" list in Notion for ages and ages, and I'm finally getting to it.

Now feels right because I've observed so many people I personally know step back somewhat or completely from these platforms, and I'm seeing a massive increase in traffic to my blog post about how I've tried to make LinkedIn more palatable. Lots of signals are saying, "Write this now!"

With that said, since this is work in progress, if you have any questions you'd like answered about marketing off of social media, just hit reply and I'll potentially include the answers in my article. (Seriously—just ask!)

As I'm pulling together research, looking at similar articles, and chewing on my specific angle, one of the points that I'm including in my in-progress article is that if you flee social media—understandable!—it's important to make that decision for reasons that are supportive and take care to not translate issues around visibility on those platforms to other tactics your adopt.

The first step in leaving or de-emphasizing socials is not tactical at all.

Instead, first evaluate why you don't want to market your business using social media.

Before you decide to adopt tactics outside social media, reflect on why you want to grow without socials. Make this a conscious decision, not a reactive one.

This is because too often I hear from folks resisting social media for the same reasons they ultimately resist all marketing platforms: they don't have time, they aren't confident in their message, they don't fully believe in their offers, they aren't sure who they're speaking to, or they haven't fully bought into their business.

This happens and is a normal part of business growth. However, I urge you to tackle these challenges prior to embarking on a new marketing strategy—trust me!

If you're feeling that it's time to diversity your leads or reach people you aren't connected to, then marketing without socials may help you.

If you have discovered that your social media return on investment is low, then marketing without socials may help you.

If you are personally feeling burned out and overwhelmed by the rapid pace of social media, then ditching socials may be the right move.

I have a reputation (undeserved, I'd argue—ahem) as a social media hater, and I'm truly not. Like anything, these platforms are tools and it's all about how you use them and the impact, negative or positive, they have on you.

Is marketing without socials possible? Absolutely! I can cite dozens of incredible examples!

Will opting out of socials allow you to opt out of all marketing? Nope! No way!
