Your 2026 "To Don't" List 🎇
|
Hello Reader, In the spirit of the New Year, most people are busy adding things to their "To-Do" lists. Today, I want to give you a "To-Don't" list. Don't wait until your SEO is perfect. Don't wait until your YouTube edits look like a Netflix documentary. Don't wait until your copy is 100% typo-free to hit send. (Yes, I said what I said.) We often think we need to be excellent at marketing because we are excellent at our actual jobs. But that "A+ mindset" is actually a spiral that leads to inaction. I've seen it a thousand and one times, and I used to be terrible about this myself—and I still let that nasty habit creep in sometimes. The goal for 2026 isn't perfection; it’s momentum. That’s why I love Rough Draft Thinking. Unlike a "Minimum Viable Product" (which sounds like tech-jargon), embracing the concept of the "Rough Draft" feels human. It acknowledges that your idea is awesome, even if the lighting is a little dim or the formatting is basic. It allows you to test concepts with your real audience instead of the mirror of self criticism. I’m, once again, continuing my own commitment to more rough drafts this year. I want my ideas out in the world where they can actually help people, rather than sitting in my "Drafts" folder gathering digital dust. Even if they're imperfect. Will you join me? Find one small marketing task you’ve been putting off because it’s not "ready" yet. Launch it this week in its imperfect, drafty state.I think you’ll find it’s a lot more effective—and a lot less stressful. To a "drafty" and productive New Year, Sarah
